Monil is proud to announce the launch of a new and improved version of our popular cattle collar for 2025.

In 2024, Monil’s virtual fencing system was an integral part of operations on farms across the UK and Norway. In fact, 90% of our customers stated that the collar was essential or highly beneficial during the grazing season. Farmers have consistently highlighted three key strengths: exceptional battery life, user-friendly functionality, and excellent tracking capabilities. While we take pride in this feedback, we are raising the bar even higher for 2025.

Here’s what you can expect from the latest Monil collar.

After a successful grazing season, we at Monil are aiming even higher for 2025.

More robust than ever

A virtual fencing system must withstand demanding conditions year after year. Now, we’ve made the collar even more resilient by enhancing its mechanical strength, delivering clearer sound and shock delivery, and improving network coverage.

Enhanced mechanical durability

Our cattle collars face many challenges in the field and take quite a beating from animals. To address this, we’ve introduced 11 new mechanical upgrades to enhance durability.

One of the most notable improvements is the integrated solar panel on the top of the collar. After extensive testing, we’ve moved the solar panel inside the collar’s casing, making it more resistant to scratches and impacts without sacrificing charging efficiency.

The battery is also securely enclosed, providing consistent power throughout the grazing season. Thanks to the solar panel and energy-efficient design, recharging isn’t needed during the typical British summer. In 2024, collars maintained an average battery level above 90% by the end of September.

To further enhance durability, we’ve laser-engraved the collar’s ID number. This provides permanent visibility to ensure consistent tracking, no matter what the cow gets up to while out to pasture.

Clearer audio signals and electric cues

Monil complies with both national and international industry standards for delivering electric shocks. Our system delivers consistent and reliable signals to the animals, helping them quickly understand and respect virtual fence boundaries. After the initial training period, animals primarily respond to sound signals, reducing reliance on electric cues.

We’ve positioned the antenna on the animal’s neck to optimize GNSS technology and ensure precise location tracking. This enables our advanced algorithms to deliver shocks only when necessary.

Improved network coverage

The collar connects to the strongest network in the area, whether O2, Vodafone, or EE, to provide seamless monitoring and efficient fence adjustments. In 2025, we will adopt NB-IoT technology, further expanding coverage and ensuring reliable nationwide communication.

The new version features a robust design.

Always up-to-date with the latest features

Monil is a system that evolves alongside your needs. Throughout the grazing season, the collar and app receive automatic updates via mobile networks, ensuring access to the latest functionalities. In 2025, we’re introducing several new tools to enhance grazing management, improve animal health insights, and support breeding plans.

Rotational grazing assistant (Beta)

Many of our customers already use Monil’s virtual fences for rotational grazing with great success. To make this even easier, we’re developing the Rotational Grazing Assistant—a new tool with easy shortcuts for moving fences directly in the app. The launch of this feature is expected by late summer. It’s designed to help you optimize pasture usage, save time, and simplify grazing management.

Animal health and activity alerts

Animal welfare is of utmost importance. Monil acts as your digital shepherd, watching your herd to ease inspection duties. We’re introducing features to provide better insights into your animals’ well-being, allowing you to detect health issues early. If ‘Daisy’ starts to show unusual movement patterns, you’ll receive an alert in the app, cueing you to check in on her. In 2025, we’ll roll out additional tools to monitor activity changes individually and notify you when it’s time to check on your herd, all updated automatically in the collars and in the app.

Breeding intelligence (Beta)

A successful breeding plan is key to farm profitability. Thanks to our ergonomic design, the collar sits close enough to the animal to monitor their movements and detect important behavioral signals. By the end of 2025, we’ll release an experimental beta version of our heat detection feature, signaling when a cow may be in heat.

Several new features are launching in 2025. One of them is the in-app rotational grazing assistant, designed to simplify moving strip grazing fences through the app.

Far more than virtual fencing

This marks the beginning of our journey toward a product that is far more than just a virtual fence. We aim to be your partner and provide valuable insights into your animals’ health and behavior. With over 4,000 collars tested in Norway and some of the UK’s most challenging environments, we’ve refined the design, durability, and functionality. The result is a solution that gives you more control, better oversight, and greater flexibility in managing your pastures.

In 2025, Monil sets a new standard for grazing management with a collar that offers full control, improved animal welfare, and more efficient operations. Enquire to see how Monil can improve your own operations at monil.co.uk.
